Beauty Babble: Second Thought About Advance Technology And Beauty

I've noticed that more and more beauty products nowadays advertise that they are produced with nanotechnology.
More about the idea : Nanotechnology, shortened to "nanotech", is the study of the controlling of matter on an atomic and molecular scale. Generally nanotechnology deals with structures sized 100 nanometers or smaller in at least one dimension, and involves developing materials or devices within that size.

Nanotechnology is commonly used to break down particles into extremely small units. It is widely integrated in cosmetic productions these days due to the popular belief that the tinier the particles in a skincare product are, the higher ability that products has to penetrate our skin, and thus leads to more effective benefits. However, a recent research study conducted by an university in Taiwan concluded that nano particles may cause damages to our lungs because these particles are a lot smaller than normal particles in the air. They irritate our lungs and may cause damages to lung tissues and may also leads to fluid accumulation. In addition, it can lead to impaired gas exchange and may cause respiratory failure.

The research study's experimental group (the group that breathed in nano particles) appeared to have lung infections due to the irritation from the particles. It also proved that even just skin contact could lead to similar negative effects.

This is very shocking because so many beauty products these days are made with nanotechnology, and even myself was a believer in nano products. But now, I really need to rethink about these products. This is definitely an alert and wake up call that advance technology does not necessarily mean positive results. Hopefully more studies can be done on this topic. This will definitely add a twist to the beauty world, and I am looking forward to see how cosmetic companies respond to this.

Thanks for stopping by!
Anyway, I'm studying the nano tech field (I'm a biomedical engineer) right now, and I'm going to say that I think everything has two sides-- good and bad. Nano tech has TONS of favorable points, but as with all things, has downsides. But again, as with all things, use products with moderation and never overuse products. Always follow directions. And a note about facial masks- these are GREAT for use every 1-2 times a week, but don't use it more, you'll end up aging your skin rather than making it younger!

i think that nanotech can do a lot of good to this world, but it's very important to be controlled.
