The Body Shop Oil Free Balancing Foundation Is A Makeup Disaster

The Body Shop used to be one of my favorite makeup brands back in high school. However, after I went to college, I just somehow stopped shopping there, and ever since college, I really never bought anything from the brand. I have noticed that the brand has been doing quite a few promotions and sales lately, so I decided to take advantage of the lowered prices and try out some makeup products. Although I had quite a bad customer service experience with the store that I went to, I took home the Oil Free Balancing Foundation SPF 15 ($23) in shade 03, which sounds very promising for oily skin girls like myself.

More about the product : Perfect and balance skin while minimizing pores with a lightweight, shine-free formula. Best for medium to full coverage, oily and combination skin. Special blend of minerals and high performance spherical powders work together to achieve all-day balanced coverage.

I had a really bad first impression with the foundation due to its cheap and fragile packaging. For a $23 foundation, the package definitely need some improvement. The bottle I bought had a piece clear tape over it. When I tried to rip it off, a piece of the silver coating on the bottle broke off.

Usually, I apply liquid foundation by first roughly spread them all over my face and then carefully blend everything out. By the time I applied this foundation to my face and were ready to spread it evenly, it had almost already dried up, which made it extremely difficult to blend and took me almost 20 minutes to make it at least look a bit wearable on me. Then I decided that may be I use toss my foundation brush and tried to use a wet sponge because it is the easiest to work with thick foundations. Well, guess what? Even a wet sponge did not make it better. The foundation literally felt like a thick paste on my face that was just patchy and nasty. Then the worse came when I stepped out of the house, I noticed the foundation had already caked on me. Overall, it was such a horrible experience that I had to go back and washed everything away. I think I am better off with my bare skin than using this product. A total expensive junk that I returned to the store.

That's awful. Reading these stories really sicken me...I would've left and maybe tried another time. But not everyone has the time and she clearly wasted so much of yours.

I'll stick to shopping online for TBS.

Never tried their foundation but maybe try mixing it with moisturizer?

Sorry to hear the product didn't work for you. I would have personally asked for the Sales lady's full name and the contact and name of her superior. Impolite SA's tend to climb down from their high horses at this point, knowing you would take the situation further. She deserves an official complaint.

OMG. You should've demanded to see the manager and complained about her poor service and how no one told you before!!

Although actually, you guys a much luckier than us. We're not allowed to return cosmetics full stop. Not even if they're unopened... =__=

THAT is rude. You should have reported her to the manager. And I'm sorry the foundation didn't work for you. I hate it too when foundation gets hard to blend :(

But oh well, at least in the US you get to return stuff. In Indonesia all sales are final. I can never return anything. I envy you guys.. lol.

Oh my goodness thats awful! I would have complained to the manager or the body shop directly! There was no reason for her rudeness, and you never know, she may have been reported countless times before and your post may be the push she needs to change her attitude?

I have never tried any of the body shop foundations and to be honest, I dont think im willing to try them, I would rather save up for a really good one that I know works for me, NARS balanced foundation is amazing :)

I would write a complaint letter directly to Corporate. You didn't deserve that bullshit.

I worked in a sales department. I was always told that always implement customer service. Even if the customer is being difficult, you should still implement customer service.

In your case, you weren't a difficult customer. You were just not happy with the results of the foundation -- simple as that. It sucks that you experienced a horrid sales associate. Because of the training I got from a previous store I worked for, I expect the same customer service. But you know what, some just don't listen. It's unjustifiable for that lady to not know the supply and demand in the cosmetic industry. I've had so many encounters on other department stores, that can't even ask if I was being helped already or how I was. It sucks. And for you to be called, "kiddo" was just way out of line and very unprofessional.

I agree with Shop N Chomp, that deserves a complaint letter directly to the Corporate Office.

No, I have never tried Body Shop makeup before. And after reading this, perhaps I won't. Thanks for letting us know of their terrible service. I did like Body Shop a lot back in high school too, but some places just goes down hill.

omg.. they're assholes! LOL, I only want one thing from the body shop that's makeup and it's this ONE eyeshadow cube thingy! It was soooo pretty.. LOL xD But maybe they don't really like returns because they don't really get much business at my mall!

It sucks how you had to go through all that and still ended up with a dud. I've never used Body Shop foundation before and your review doesn't make me want to try them any time soon!

Thank you guys for all your comments. I have decided that I will definitely write a complaint letter to corporate office because that lady needs to be educated about respect for customers. May be I will do an update if I get an answer from corporate.
