If you look at some of the most popular makeup and skincare products out on the market, chances are they contain some of the ingredients that are not good for our skin. However, many still use them.

It is quite funny sometimes when I see "gurus" say things like "don't buy makeups from China or Thailand because there may be harmful ingredients or chemicals in there." But the truth is if you look at the ingredient list of some of the big brands out there, they may shock you. For example, next time, read the ingredient list on Nars Laguna, it looks horrible. Sorry...Im off topic a bit....LOL

But my point is yes, I agree with you. I admit sometimes I do use products, knowing that there are ingredients in them that are not good, but I still use them (try not to use so often). I think moderation is the key. But I think it is still good for people to know what ingredients are bad so that at least we know what to look out for.

Thanks lot for the comment and I always love opinions that are not just the usual sweet ones. But next time, you don't have to be anonymous because I promise I won't bite...LOL

PS: this totally inspires me to do a full post about this issue. If anyone has any opinions about this, definitely leave a comment below or e-mail me because I think it is a very interesting topic.Angelahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16781275169520385116noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1109958199454369484.post-59039518605524242942009-10-18T23:25:55.461-07:002009-10-18T23:25:55.461-07:00Just to let you know, the cleansing oil that you n...Just to let you know, the cleansing oil that you named as a favorite has one of the ingredients that you warned people to look out for. In face, most cleansing oils have some of these ingredients, and you can't really avoid them. I finally got some time to check your ...Hi Angela,

I finally got some time to check your blog. It's truly excellent: one of the first posts already is so useful and informative. I've been thinking about making my own cleansing oil of some vegetable oil and emulsifier (Polysorbate 80 most likely) and your info about the different quantities and proportions comes truly in handy, so thanks a bunch. :)

About your answer to @Becks:
I use L'Occitane's Almond Apple cleansing oil (as you know :) and emulsifiers are pretty high on the list, which is probably why it hasn't broken me out but has made several dry-skinned friends of mine complain about its drying effect.

I guess one can always check the INCI list of the product, eliminate any known ingredients (the oils, fruit or herbal extracts, colorants, fragrance, preservatives) and check the rest on the Internet. It'll soon turn out which ones are emulsifiers, and if they are among the first few on the list, then the product contains them in a large enough quantity.

Anyway, congratulations on your wonderful blog! You've got yourself another follower. :)

Take care!
Love,
IzarVikihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04074840923998901040noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1109958199454369484.post-42177292214656754792009-10-09T15:44:41.257-07:002009-10-09T15:44:41.257-07:00@Becks: good questions because a lot of people are...@Becks: good questions because a lot of people are not using their cleansing oil correctly.

First, you need to have a dry face. Put cleansing oil on your face and gently rub it around so it can properly dissolve all the makeup. Then add water to your face little by little (i guess you can also just wash your face but I always do it little by little so I know it thoroughly emulsify). Then you will notice that the "oil" starts to turn white. Usually after 2-3 times of adding water, i then just wash everything off.

When the cleansing oil turn white, that is when you know it emulsified. Now the problem Ive came across with before is that if just wash/shower my face right after I put the oil on my face, I notice that it doesn't completely wash everything off and my face feel oily. Thats why at the beginning I really hate cleansing oil because I don't understand why someone would use it since you can't wash off the oil feeling. Now i know this is simply because you didn't let it completely emulsify.

and how about how much emulsifiers there is in a certain oil. There is really no way to tell exactly because companies don't put that info on the product. However, if you use a few, you will get a sense which one has more. Some cleansing oil takes a lot of water and time for it to turn white. Some doesn't. The less water and faster the oil turns white, the more emulsifiers it has.

wow..this is a long reply....LOL hopefully this helps.Angelahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16781275169520385116noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1109958199454369484.post-20552939492555857852009-10-09T15:37:30.909-07:002009-10-09T15:37:30.909-07:00thank you guys

I also use a face cleanser afterward.

@Fifi: I heart Shills stuff are really good, but the only place I found selling them is payeasy?! forgot the name of the site but it's a site from Taiwan. I wish I could find it in the states because I really want to try it.

@Yumeko: sorry to heard that they don't work for you. May be you could try cleansing gel. They are a lot milder than oil.

@Clearly Beautiful Blog: i love st. ives, especially their scrub. But Ive never tried a cleanser from them. May be I'll pick on up next time. Thanks for letting me know.

@lindah: thanks for the following girl. And I have a few Q's, how do we know that there are more emulsifiers? I use the Shiseido one (my first) and it's okay but also because I shower and wash my face afterwards. And at first, I didnt even know I had to emulsify it lol so I would just try to wipe it off with a cotton and go jump in the shower (which I guess would then emulsify what was left on my face). Right now I'm using cold cream to remove makeup because I left my cleansing oil at my mother in laws place, and so far so good. I guess if I just take a shower/wash my face afterwards, the acne thing won't really apply? I dunno :)Beckshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03891519254329460977noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1109958199454369484.post-51512217829977102632009-10-09T00:57:19.160-07:002009-10-09T00:57:19.160-07:00Great entry!
